LAST UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Fairly handles sensitive things: your receipts, your voice, and your money. This page says what happens to each, in the same plain language the app uses.

## Who we are

Fairly is made by Obsurvive, Inc., 300 Delaware Ave, Ste 210 #287, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA. We are the data controller for the data described here. Write to [hello@fairly.day](mailto:hello@fairly.day) about anything on this page, or to [privacy@obsurvive.com](mailto:privacy@obsurvive.com) to exercise your rights.

## What Fairly keeps

- **Your account:** your email address, your display name, the Google or Apple identity you sign in with, your sessions, and the devices registered for notifications.
- **Your groups:** the expenses, payments, comments and receipt photos you and the other members add, so everyone sees the same ledger.
- **Your settings:** language, currency, reminder tone and the rules Fairly learned for your groups.

Fairly has no ads and does not sell or share your data for advertising.

## Receipts

There are three separate things Fairly can do with a receipt photo. Each one is described here as it works today.

- **Reading it on your phone.** When you snap a receipt, your phone's own text recognition can read the lines. That reading happens on the device.
- **Model-assisted reading.** Where it is available, Fairly can instead send the photo to Fairly's servers so an AI model reads the lines. The photo goes from our servers to our AI provider through our own gateway, only to read that receipt.
- **Attaching the photo to an expense.** A receipt photo you attach is uploaded to Fairly's storage and kept with the expense. Everyone in that group can open it, so they can see how a number happened. Removing an attached photo from storage is not yet something you can do yourself; email us and we will help.

You never have to upload a photo. You can always type an expense in by hand.

## Voice

Voice input uses your phone's built-in speech recognition. Depending on your device and its settings, that service may send the audio to Apple or Google to turn it into text. Fairly receives only the text, never the audio.

## Typing to Fairly

When you describe an expense in words or ask Fairly a question, the text goes to Fairly's servers and, through our own gateway, to our AI provider, only to answer that request. Fairly does not use your text to train models.

## Learning

Fairly learns your group's habits (who pays, what's never shared, when you settle) to draft splits. Every learned rule is visible in the group and editable. You can switch learning off at any time.

## Money

Fairly never moves money. You pay each other however you already do, outside Fairly. When a payment is recorded in Fairly, by you, by the person you paid, or by a friend marking “I've paid” on a link, it is written to the group's ledger so everyone's balance stays correct. That record is all Fairly keeps about a payment.

## Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app: **You › Account › Delete account**. For your security the app asks you to sign in again first. Before you do, you can export each group's expenses as a CSV file from the group's settings. If you cannot use the app, email [hello@fairly.day](mailto:hello@fairly.day?subject=Delete%20my%20Fairly%20account) from the address you sign in with.

Your account is deleted 7 days after you confirm. If you sign in again before then, the deletion is cancelled and your account is restored.

**What is deleted:** your account, your sign-in identity and email address, your sessions, the devices registered for notifications, and the text of every comment you wrote.

**What stays:** expenses, payments and their receipt photos stay in the shared group ledgers, so the other members' balances stay correct. In those ledgers you are shown as “Deleted user” instead of your name.

**Sign in with Apple:** when you delete your account, Fairly asks Apple to revoke Fairly's access to your Apple ID. If Fairly cannot do that for you, the app tells you how to stop using Sign in with Apple for Fairly in your Apple settings.

## Who else handles your data

- **Hosting:** Fairly's servers and database run on dedicated servers in Germany (Hetzner). Receipt photos are stored in Cloudflare R2, and Cloudflare delivers fairly.day and the API.
- **AI:** receipt reading, typed expenses and Ask Fairly go through our gateway to OpenRouter, which passes the request to the model that answers it.
- **Sign-in and notifications:** Google or Apple when you sign in with them; Apple and Google deliver push notifications; invitation and reminder emails are sent by our email provider.

Obsurvive is a US company, and some of these providers are in the US. Where personal data of people in the EU, EEA or UK leaves those regions, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

## Your rights

You can see and correct your name and settings in the app, export your groups' expenses, and delete your account. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to stop a use of it: write to [hello@fairly.day](mailto:hello@fairly.day). If you are in the EU or the UK and think we got something wrong, you can complain to your data protection authority.
